The inevitable.

Jimmy part 13 is finally uploaded. You can read it HERE.

It was uploaded on Tuesday but after uploading it I thought I would have a game of Tetris which lasted a couple of hours and I completely forgot about this post.

JK Rowling announced today that she is penning a new film set in the world of Harry Potter called  Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which will be the first in a new series. Everyone knew that Rowling would return to the world of Harry Potter at some point. I just always assumed it would be a new book, before a new film. At any rate it’s good news. I have high hopes and I’m sure they will be met. I just hope she will continue with her detective writing as well because I really enjoyed that book.

I watched the first episode of Bate’s Motel, a modern retelling of Psycho today. I wasn’t that impressed. A lot of reviews made out it was the best thing ever. It was okay, but nothing more than that. I will watch the second episode and hope it gets better.

I caught up with the comic Ghosted after it was recommended to me. There are only 3 issues out so far, but I really enjoyed them. The dialogue is a little off in places but overall I’m really enjoying it.

There isn’t much of an update with writing. Dissertation is coming along slowly. I’m putting together ideas for books I’m writing.

Thanks for reading,

Ashley.

A New Story

“Just get on the M1, the tyre isn’t going to deflate immediately. We’ll stop at the first services and see how bad it is there.”

“I can’t drive on the motorway like this.”

“You’ve been driving around for half an hour like this. It isn’t going to explode now. It’s gone four and it’s Sunday. Anywhere fitting tyres will be closed now. You should have gotten that spare when you had the chance.”

Click HERE to read a new story I’ve written.

So far I have 1500 words. The section I have uploaded is the last 950 words. It was influenced when a group of friends and I missed the last train home after a concert in London and had to wait around for a lift because we couldn’t afford train tickets for the next day. I am very grateful to the parents who picked us up.

In other very good news Tabby, my girlfriend, refused to believe that my memory stick had fell out of my bag and near enough gutted in. It was was found at the bottom of the lining of a pocket I have never used. I have no idea how it got there but I’m very happy it’s returned which means next Tuesday I will be uploading Jimmy. I think I will be uploading the last 3 parts very quickly.

Updates.

I promised last week that I would be uploading a preview of something new that I’m writing, that will be uploaded tomorrow at some point. I don’t know how long the section will be, probably around 500 words.

Last Sunday I spent half the day replaying Zelda: A Link to the Past for the SNES. It’s one of the best Zelda games, a classic. I’m trying to complete it before the sequel comes out later this year, over 20 years after the original.

I’m also replaying the Uncharted games to get them all at 100%, not including multiplater add ons. I’ve finished the 3rd one completely, and I’m halfway through the first one. Those 3 games are ranked very highly in my mind. Some of the best of the current generation. Naughty Dog rarely make a bad game. I’ve played all of the main console ones and the only one I dislike is Jak 2 because it winds me up with bad camera angels, stupid aiming for the guns and the annoying handling of the cars and jet board thing. The Last of Us, Naughty Dogs latest game, is among the best games of all time. The story, the acting, the characters. I’ve played it through 3 times since it came out 2 and a bit months ago and just love it.

It’s only a couple of days until NICE the Northamptonshire comic convention. Quite a few cancellations this week. 8 in total. It’s a little disappointing but the main people are still there. Garth Ennis, Guillem March. There will be plenty of things to do. I’m really looking forward to it. After that it’s focusing on uni for two weeks, and then I should be prepared.

Jimmy update

I want to apologise to anyone expecting the next part of Jimmy this week. I was going to upload it today, but while traveling between my dad’s and mum’s house yesterday my memory stick must have fell out of my bag. I’ve checked it several times. I’m not sure how up to date my back up is but when I go back to my dad’s house I will check and then update you. Even if I have to rewrite it there will be something up next week. I will also upload the first part of the new thing I started writing that I mentioned earlier in the week. At the moment it is only 700 words but I only just started it and have the next 2000 or so in my head. I also have the ending which is unusual because I normally can’t end things.

Last weekend I reread the first half of Jonathan Hickman’s Fantastic Four/FF run. As with most things Hickman writes it’s much better when you know what is coming. Everything makes more sense, and little bits here and there really make his writing brilliant. I’m really enjoying East of West which he is writing. While it’s only 5 issues in, I think it’s probably my favourite thing he has written to date.

As I don’t own the second half of Hickman’s FF run I decided to reread something else this weekend. I looked over my shelves and spotted Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing. One of the first comics I ever read. I remember being amazed by how brilliant it is. When Alan came to our school there was a free handout of issue 21, which is the second issue in his run. I remember receiving a message from a friend later in the day which read “Wow. I need to read more.” It’s one of those comics that sounds so stupid, along with Matter-Eating Lad and Arm-Fall off boy and yet unlike those two Swamp Thing is just epic. Now that I’m rereading it I think it’s even better than the first time round. I don’t know if that’s because my knowledge of comics has improved or it just gets better after rereading. At the moment I’m just over halfway through volume 2 of 6. Constantine hasn’t been in it yet. If I remember correctly that’s in volume 3. After I’ve finished Swamp Thing I’m going to start on Jack Kirby’s (Who would have turned 96 this week if he was still with us) Fourth World, which I’ve also read before.

Weekly Update

I haven’t uploaded another Jimmy in weeks. I plan to have one up by the end of the week. We’ll see though. It’s not that I don’t have time, I just want to make sure it is worth putting up.

The final number of people who entered my giveaway was 1510. I’m very happy with that number. A massive thank you to anyone who entered, shared or both. Thank you!

Last weekend was Reading and Leeds. I didn’t go this year. I did watch Green Day, Haim, Fall Out Boy and Biffy Clyro on TV though. Green Day were fantastic. A set of massive hits, and the whole of their album Dookie. Shame BBC only showed 1 hour of it. They did show the whole of Clyro though. I didn’t think much to them. I’ve seen them live and was disappointed and they’ve gotten no better. I think their music is alright, but his voice is so awful live. It’s just my opinion I know a lot of people who love them. Again I was annoyed by BBC only showing 4 songs from Fall Out Boy’s set. They looked pretty good. I’ve read the setlist and it looks like it was a decent show. I had no idea who Haim where and only watched it because nothing else was on. I enjoyed them, but I didn’t think they were anything special.

At the moment I’m listening to Avenged Sevenfold’s new album. I’m enjoying it so far. Only 4 tracks in. I wasn’t a fan of the first single when I first heard it, but it grew on me.

I’m planning on getting half way through my Dissertation piece by the end of this week. I’ve got most of it worked out now. I’ve also got a new idea that keeps on coming back to me. It’s only a small scene I thought about a couple of weeks ago while on a long drive, but it keeps on coming back so I’m going to write it down and see what happens.

Ashley
