New Story

I’ve uploaded a new story that I started writing for Fiction last week. You can read it HERE

I didn’t read it out and haven’t made any adjustments from the first draft. I have an idea where the story would go, but so far just the 500 have been written. Any feedback would be appreciated. I have no idea if I will ever return to this story, but  I don’t want it to disappear like so many of my uni stuff has.

Thanks for reading,

Ashley

Writing

It got to 10pm today and I hadn’t written anything. I’d been playing games and reading comics, but hadn’t written a word all day. I sat down, put on Hail to the King by Avenged Sevenfold and made myself write. In less than 45 minutes I wrote 1600 words. It all came out very easily. I stopped writing while knowing exactly what was going to happen next. It’s been quite a breakthrough today. I have uni between 9 – 11 tomorrow and plan to write afterwards. I’m not making any plans with when the book should be done by. It’s been over a month now since I’ve written one word towards it, and at the moment I just want to start writing again.

I decided yesterday that I wasn’t going to worry about writing for uni and don’t really see a reason to write the task for Fiction at the moment, or at least not to worry about it until Wednesday night. I’m going to focus on other things until then.

Now I’m going to go and read comics for a while before bed. There will be an update on Tuesday. I’m also going to upload a short story tomorrow. It’s what I did for Fiction last week, but didn’t read out. All feedback is appreciated, especially since it’s different to the usual things I write.

Thanks for reading,

Ashley.

Another Week

It’s been a strange week. I can’t get myself to sit down and write. The ideas are there, but I just don’t want to write them down. My writing for university is getting poorer and poorer. I’m spending as little time as possible on it and hoping for the best. I’m not interested in the topics. Walking around town and writing about it, it’s dull. For Thursday I have to write a story from the perspective of a girl. Fine, but about what? It has no real impact for the grade, unless I choose to use it for the portfolio which I probably won’t. The Creative Writing side of the course this year seems to be a mess. I just don’t care about it.

The English side is much better. I’m enjoying Phantastes by George MacDonald. The poetry in Romanticism is bearable, with a few poems that really grab me. I really liked “The Haunted Beach” by Mary Robinson, which was what I had to introduce last week. This week was spent entirely on Coleridge’s “The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere” which I have read before, but a long time ago and didn’t really enjoy it. I appreciate it a lot more now, and actually really like it. I like most things supernatural and Gothic though, so it’s not that surprising.

I completed Super Mario Bros 1 for the first time ever on Saturday. Very pleased about that. It’s taken me long enough. I’ve now got the second one to play, which I’ve never played before. It’s all going okay so far. I finished Hitman Absolution a couple of days ago. I wasn’t sure when it came out, but got it from Blockbuster’s closing down sale for £5. I enjoyed it, although it isn’t as good as earlier games in the series.

This time next week I plan to have written 500 words a day to try and start writing again. I want to start sleeping normally again and not wake up incredibly early every day with the feeling that I’ve wasted another day. I want to read more. More stuff I like.

Thanks for reading,

Ashley.

It’s been a long time.

It’s been nearly a month since my last post. Too long. I sat down to write a post a couple of times but just couldn’t write anything. I haven’t really been writing that much lately, apart from for uni and that has been poor and rushed. Most of the topics are uninteresting and I just can’t get into them. I spend a week or two thinking about them and then rush something in 20 minutes.

I haven’t been reading much book-wise, either, just Phantastes by George Macdonald for uni, which to be fair I’m enjoying. Just taking my time with it. I was told it was a hard book to read and didn’t want to skip over anything. I’ve got the new Lemony Snicket book sitting on my desk waiting to be opened. Probably after the class test I’ve got in a couple of weeks though.

I’ve been reading as many comics as ever. I’ve just found out that you can get Comixology on Kindle Fire in the UK about 3 months later than it was available. So I’ve put all of my codes in to get free digital copies and am currently rereading Hickman’s Avengers/New Avengers series. I want to be caught up again by the time Infinity 6 comes out. I’m also going to reread the first issue of Marvel Knights Spider-Man before the second, because even though I know I enjoyed it, I can’t remember much about it, other than it being really weird.

I played Batman Arkahm Origins recently. Apart from the annoying amount of bugs in the game I really enjoyed it. The whole series has been great so far and I hope they continue it into the next gen at the same rate. While the bugs have been annoying some of them were just stupid. At one point in the sewers I stepped in a tiny puddle the size of Batman’s foot and he drowned in it. He sunk into the platform and then grappled his way out. That made me laugh. There were also bits where I could walk through walls and end up in bits that weren’t finished or meant to be seen.

I went to see Thor: The Dark World last week and thought that was really good. Better than the first Thor film. My top 3 Marvel films now go; Captain America, Thor 2 and then Thor. I do think that Captain America: Winter Solider will take the top spot but it might not live up to expectations. Thor 2 was really fun. It had a great story and lots of humour. I can’t recommend it enough.

I’m looking forward to a few films to see at the cinema. Kill Your Darlings, staring Daniel Radcliffe. It’s about the Beat Generation, which is an interest of mine. I’m pretty sure The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug is going to be brilliant. I really enjoyed the first one and can’t see it not being awesome. I want to see Ender’s Game but don’t know if I will be going to the cinema for it. Good cast, and while I don’t know much about the plot, the trailer looks good.

In a moment I’m going to go and play Super Mario Bros from 1985. It’s on pause at the moment. I’m the furthest through it I ever have been. I’ve poured so many hours into the game and have never completed it. Hopefully this time, although I’m running low on lives. It takes so long to get 100 coins for a new life.

Thanks for reading,

Ashley.
